GREY is the new FASHION QUEEN!

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Grey is the NEW Fashion QUEEN.

As we make the transition from the summer into fall season we leave behind our memories of sunny days at the shore, tan lines, margaritas, boat rides and late night rendezvous. Many of us are getting ready to usher in brisk afternoons and colder nights which really should not be dreaded but embraced.  It’s time to pull out the sweaters and boots and layer on the sexy! Grey has been crowned the new it color of the season. This fall hot designer labels like Life and Death, Sinful, True Religion, Street Saint and others have incorporated key pieces in their collection in Grey. Why, you may ask?  Well, Grey is no longer the drab, cold, boring and unflattering color your granny used to wear but its functional, classic, versatile, metallic, and textured. The best way to take hold of this new season trend is to add a few splashes of color like magenta, yellow, red and green.

Seun Lim for James Cured Jeans: a band-aid for mother nature

Organic denim takes on a whole new personality when eco-conscious designer, Seun Lim, gets her hands on it. Seoul-born designer debuted her radically new treatment system when she created James Cured Jeans in 2003. In this complicated, yet 100% green method, Seun discovered that when she brushed her handcrafted denim with green tea leaves and coffee extracts, they would produce vintage washes and cure under the rays of the California sun, creating an entirely new way to age denim. She has moved James Jeans to the top of the premium denim market by establishing the brand as a pioneer in the dry aged process.

Since the jeans are already well known in Hollywood for their ace fits and trendy top stitching, it isn’t a surprise that they have been seen on the notably stylish Juilanne Moore, Uma Thurman, and Jennifer Lopez.

For Fall 2007, Seun wanted to create a fashionable line that would emphasize both the high and mid-rise comeback for wide leg jeans. Currently the basic 5-pocket boot cut jean is the company’s best selling jean but Seun wants to change that. For Spring 2008, James Cured Jeans will introduce a brand new washing technique featuring organic hybrid compounds, which will ensure a great look and an even better fit.

Whether you are a cantaloupe planting catwalk queen, or sitting behind the steering wheel of an oil tanker,  the new wave of environmentally safe garments is only going to grow, so why not get plant the seeds in your earth friendly closet with the hottest “green” denim designs on the market with James Cured Jeans by Seun Lim?!

Dear Jean Queen: Jean terminology is tripping me up, can you help me decipher what some of these things mean?

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Q: Dear Jean Queen, I’m a guy and sometimes I feel like I’m out of the loop when it comes to all these fancy terms that people use to describe denim. Low rise, boot cut - I don’t know what any of this means and it makes it really frustrating when I’m in a store trying to tell the sales people what I like. I love designer denim and I know that alot of work goes into making them, so do you think you can give me the run down on what all this stuff means, I would really appreciate it. Thanks. -Jack D.

A: Have no fear Jack, the Jean Queen is here to save the day! I’m really glad you asked this question, because many of our customers call to ask me the same things, so this will definitely help out everyone!
I will agree that denim jargon does get confusing to people outside the realm of working with it, but I will tell you this: Once you know it, you will be breezing through out website thinking to yourself “It all makes sense now!”

So, let’s address the low rise issue. When it comes to jeans, it’s the inches of the rise are what you want to know because low rise for men would be like an 8-9″ rise. Most mens jeans are mid rise, about 10-11″ anything above that is just old fashioned and you don’t want! The best way to figure out the rise that’s right for you is by taking your favorite pair of jeans and measuring fromt the crotch seam to the top of the button closure, that’s it. That’s your rise, baby.
Here’s a picture that should help to illustrate it for you.

Now for the leg boot leg confusion. Boot leg, or boot cut, refers to the angle from the knee break to the leg opening. What’s a knee break your probably wondering? If you take a pair of your jeans and lay them flat fold the bottom of the leg up to the pocket line. The fold length is the knee break. It’s usually around 8-9 inches for men. Then you measure the leg opening, which is the very bottom seam of the jean leg from end to end. Here’s a picture illustrating the knee break.

If the jean was boot cut, the leg opening would be slightly larger than the knee break (usually not more than 2 inches”) If it is significantly wider, it would be a flare leg or bell bottom and if the leg opening is the same as the knee break its a straight leg. if the leg opening is SMALLER than the knee break, its called a skinny jean.

Those are pretty much the basics and I hope this helped. I would highly suggest carrying a tape measurer on you when you are shopping for the right jeans, but if you doing your shopping here, don’t be afraid to email me: taryn@emoda.com, and I will be quick to help you with everything you need to know.
…AND that just doesn’t go for Jack either!
