Wear The Oscar Trends To Your Gathering

Friday, 11 March, 2011

men latest fashionGood news for party lovers… Now, tuxedo is not limited to just the black and white penguin dress. Today’s tuxedo gives you more of a cool factor with silhouette look. The fashion experts run modern tuxedos on the design gamut with contemporary personalities, which in turn inspire the black tie dressing.

Just give a thought to some of the coolest stars on screen, say James Bond or George Clooney who walk the red carpet with the latest fashion styles. Styles like a new bolder and bigger bow tie and Lanvin’s new midnight blue have seen to make style signatures. I know how much you like to see yourself wearing one of their styles and be a style icon.
If you want to carry the latest fashion, which the red carpet saw, you must abide by the following formal fashion rules coming straight from the Oscars.

The first step is to find a tux, which is similar to the suit size and silhouette you have already purchased. It can be either single or double-breasted. A bog no from fashion view is to never cuff your tuxedo pants and keep away from wearing polyester as it can invite perspiration.

Okay, do not accessorize yourself over the top and this might make you look jazzy or over dressed. Your first choices are grosgrain or satin braids and stripes, peak lapels or shawl and with or without vest. Studs, cufflinks and bow ties are the next step of accessorizing.

Oscar saw Jamie Foxx to blend the midnight blue with the red carpet. This means that you can play with the color palette. Oh, of course, the white dinner jacket is always reserved for any super fancy strut in warm environs.
Another thumb rule about Oscars is that you must strictly be dressed formally from top to bottom. By this, I mean that on the bottom, your footwear has to be equally dressy. The top includes the bow tie so, never club it with a clip on. Well, you can also master the style of formal ties and match something like a black tie on black or a white tie on white on outfit.

Hey, aren’t you forgetting something? Yes, your waistcoat. Seen as a vest, a waistcoat adds signature to your personality. Try waistcoats in patterned or textured silks and mix them with your tux. Another point to remember is to wear the cummerbund correctly. This will clean up your silhouette and give it a silky band of fabric at your waist.
Russell Brand was seen making a fashion statement as he wore a contemporary Marc Jacobs black and blue tuxedo with a trim fit and cropped length. Justin Timberlake musician turned actor wore a Tom Ford tux with a classic peak lapel jacket and a bolder bow tie. I know you have started imagining yourself in these garments.

So, it’s time that you collect your energy and excitement and go right away to the shopping centre.

Latest Trends in Air with New York Fashion Week Spring 2011

Friday, 25 February, 2011

new york fashion weekIt is usual for an average guy to stumble upon the fashion trends that change on a constant note. Are you thinking of carrying trends over to the next spring or may be fearing of walking as a fashion disaster? It is time to go through the fashion trends coming straight from the New York fashion week 2011.

The major trends that the New York fashion runway saw this spring are globe trotter, marine life and military. Do you remember the time of captain cook sailing to explore faraway lands? Well, maybe not you but surely the designers do. The spring fashion trend was seen playing with the idea of clothing that travel through the adventures worldwide.

Gilded Age, a designer has brought dress shirts in fabrics that look aged by sun. The selection features utilitarian details with multi-pocket jackets, drawstrings at your waist and epaulettes. If you are a budding world explorer then you must try this cool trend.

Duckie Brown, another fashion trend setter, looked forward to try out a collection of attires which has each piece of different fabrication. You get to wear every piece of your outfit in different color, print and texture. If you judge by the last group of the New York spring fashion show, you would definitely feel as if you are looking at the dresses of Thailand hipsters.

However, I must tell you that the unusual mix of pattern and color proportion did create an eccentric east meets west look.

Fashion trends are greatly inspired by many designers’ childhood and so was the latest New York fashion week. Billy Reid presented his pieces in traditional madras jackets like handmade patchwork and heirloom type buckled belts. These pieces evoked a historical sense, the kind you would probably buy when you are travelling.

When now you go shopping, look out for one of these to add to your closet: button down dress shirts with sleeves tabs, light weighted lived in leather jackets, field jackets with plenty of patch pockets, travel bags in leather, awning stripes, vintage prints and patchworks.

The New York fashion week very clearly saw attires in aquatics like fishing and scuba diving. Navy seals formed the inspiration of neoprene scuba bottoms and tops, flip flops in camo prints and neons. On the other hand, the trend that caught the attention of most people was the Chai blend in fishing and military themes. Oversize sleeveless cargo parkas, ribbed and net sweaters, seaweed green jackets and fishing hats walked the New York fashion ramp.

Michael Kors in fact thought of showing something different from the league and came up with marine life trends. He used hemp, rope and linen in color palette of neutral colors like cream and white and presented an easy wearable wardrobe. So, if you do not like the jazzy or over the top fashion trends go for this collection and update your style.

Without pressurizing your mind too much, just go out and add camouflage prints, marine inspired watches, rope cardigans, light weight parkas and linen trousers in white to your wardrobe.

What Attire Will Suit Best With Brown Shoes

Thursday, 24 February, 2011

men clothing with brown shoesWhen it comes to dressing, men usually face problem while matching pants with the color of shoes. Here are some practical fashion tips that will help you decide which color pant will suit the particular shoe color. Brown shoes are the most popular among men and placed in every shoe rack. With brown shoes, you can although club any color dress pant however there are still some colors which accentuate the look of your shoes further.
If you are planning to wear khaki pants, without a second thought, club your brown shoes with it. The khaki color looks great when worn with brown or casual shoes. The light color of khaki gives you the advantage to match it with various shades of brown in any footwear like loafers, boots and even tennis shoes. Khaki pants are highly versatile and even give you the option of wearing it both at office and to a club.
A pair of brown shoes will also perfectly match with a pair of blue jeans. Considering that, jeans are made of denims; you can wear them with shoes of any color. Brown however makes a perfect match, as they do not clash with the blue color of the denim as compared to the white or black color. Whenever your brown shoes are giving you tough time with pant, match them with blue denim. This will not only complement your shoes but also give you the comfort factor.
On a second thought, you can also team your brown shoes with a brown color pant or trousers. This may although not sound quite fashionable, but fashion gives you the advantage to club your shoes and pants both in brown color. If you still do not find it that appealing, you can wear pants in lighter shade as compared to your brown shoes. Going with this tip, you can undoubtedly accentuate your great fashion sense.
If you are going shopping and thinking of buying a pair of shoes, make sure that you buy dark brown shoes as they go with any color pants. On the other hand, if we just switch over the side and say you have light brown shoes, you can match them with sharkskin brown pants. Make sure that the lighter the shoe color is, the lighter must be the color of your pant.
Do not ever wear your brown shoes with a black dress pant, as this will out rightly make you a fashion disaster. Your brown shoes will look just perfect with tan, brown, and beige color tones in pants. If you would like to go for something unique and different, try wearing brown shoes with a charcoal colored overcoat on the dress shirt.
No matter which shade of brown your shoes are of, make sure that you pen down the above rules in your mind to be the fashion icon from top to bottom.

Catapult your Career with Calvin

Friday, 14 May, 2010

There are two things that everyone knows about Calvin Klein: their woman’s denim and their men’s underwear.  Both have seen iconic advertising campaigns and catapulted their stars into the limelight, but is booking a campaign a precursor to success?  More often than not.

At just 14 Brooke Shields proved that nothing gets between her and her Calvin’s.  The controversial 1980 campaign made her a household name and sought after actress.  After putting away her Calvin’s, Shields went on to star in the cult film Blue Lagoon, and TVs Suddenly Susan and Lipstick Jungle.

After displaying his wares (pun intended) in Times Square, Mark Wahlberg, put his rapping days behind him, was nominated for an Oscar (The Departed) and now produces the HBO staple, Entourage.

Post CK, Djimon Hounsou was also nominated for an Oscar (Blood Diamond) and pro-created with Kimora Lee Simons.

Antonie Sabato Jr., has stared in a slew of soap operas, Melrose Place and most recently, his own VHI reality show (did he ever find love, I wonder?).

Of those currently parading around in their undies, Mechad Brooks has appeared in Desperate Housewives and the hit  HBO series True Blood, while Kellen Lutz has put his (ridiculous) six-pack to work on The Bold and the Beautiful, 90210, Nightmares on Elm Street, and The Twilight Saga.

The lesson to aspiring stars and starlets? Hit the gym and keep you eyes on the billboard!

Let’s get Rolling

Wednesday, 12 May, 2010

I have to admit that when Katie Holmes first started rolling up her boyfriend jeans I was not a fan.  I feared it would be just another trend that everyone would try and few would pull off (leggings).  But, despite my initial hesitations, the look has taken off and is fast becoming summer’s easiest and most versatile trend.

What makes this look so senstational is that it gives new life to those boycut pants we’ve stashed in the back of our closet in favor of the skinny jeans.  It’s also one of the most versatile looks to hit the masses in years. With just a  few quick rolls, you’ve got at least three options: sexy (with a sleek tank top and pumps or heeled sandals), relaxed (with a band tee and some converse) and perfectly casual (in a simple tee, flats and a fedora).

That’s one pair of pants and at least three go-to styles that can easily take you from date to concert to the beach.  Just keep your footwear on point and make sure your pants are still a good fit, otherwise your look will be more sloppy than stylish.

Lean on denim till recession wears off and later

Wednesday, 21 April, 2010

What would we do without denim! Simple, casual, sexy, raunchy, smoking hot—denim is the one garment that falls into every category of clothing imaginable. The X-generation dude might not give a squat about art, might not possibly care about classics or literature, but boy, doesn’t he know denim!

What then, does the compulsive denim dresser do when recession is condensing his/her wardrobe? You know, the thing about denim is it ages more handsomely than George Clooney. You wear it, you party in it, go on a vacation, come back, live in and it just acquires more and more character. Well, bottom line is, you don’t have to buy a boatload of denim—especially not in recession though there are lines of recession-friendly denim you might want to check out—as long as you are sporting the in-vogue looks. Exactly what a true denim connoisseur would do.

Talking about trends, yeah skinny is in. Old news. Like every new denim trend or more than most, skinny jeans caught on with the wardrobes like wildfire. But if you feel like you just got to have one more pair, recession or no recession, in a totally Rebecca Bloomwood kind of way, I’d say go for J Brand’s ‘Houlihan’ look . Two words—cargos and skinny. How much better can it get! Hillary Duff and Kim Kardashian were spotted sporting these exotic  totally-stare-able jeans.

If you don’t have one in the latest shade, you shouldn’t miss out on the inky look. I’ll give you one good reason—deep colored denim is the perfect excuse to sport a denim shirt too! Don’t you dig the totally denim look Reese Witherspoon was sporting in a faded denim shirt, cap and inky jeans?

You must’ve heard about Rock and Republic’s recession line by now, making waves in the markets as you can imagine. So you know you can get a fabulous pair of inky skinny jeans without berating yourself for years to follow. Clever marketing strategy or not, Gap did the same too by re-launching its 1969 premium denim line. If you’re thinking it’s just a strategy, you’re wrong since you will be able to afford these brands for actually less than half their normal collections are priced at.

G-Star Raw didn’t really release a recession line. But it doesn’t take much to guess how it is recession friendly—the brand’s USP. A G-Star Raw’s regular raw denim pair might look plain as any old jeans in your wardrobe. But the beauty of it is, the untouched denim wears on you. The creases and patches, etc. etc. all that designer denim brags about can be custom created according to your own personality! So you’re wearing the same jeans all through the year but it looks different every month ‘and’ nobody’s G-Star pair looks the same as yours. The perfect G-Star look is yours to achieve—no hidden costs.

Skinny Jeans Saved My Life

Friday, 2 April, 2010

There was a time when I anti-skinny jean. Being of the mind that only supermodels, the super thin and the super hipster wore skinny jeans, I wouldn’t dare try a pair. And then one day someone gave me a gift that changed my life forever.

Skinny jeans, for those who may not know, are tapered from the hip through the ankle creating a natural silhouette of the leg. They’re also versatile; able to be neatly tucked into boots, scrunched or folded with a flat or left alone for a pump. Above all else, though the skinny jean is flattering to nearly every body type. They are feminine and surprisingly comfortable. And to think I learned this all from my first pair!

Like any good relationship, my affair with the skinny jean started off slow with just one pair and grew into an all-consuming obsession that’s taken over my closet. I now have more pairs than I can count and am take great pride in converting my boot-cut and flare-leg friends in skinny jean fanatics with each shopping expedition.

The most important thing to remember with skinny jeans, as with all trends is that they go best with a heaping portion of confidence.

Nashville foursome, Kings of Leon, is producing a line of high-end tees, denim and jackets for Surface2Air in (Paris) and S2A x KOL here in the US.  The price tag on a t-shirt is rumored around $100, denim will fetch close to $200 and for a mere $1150, you can wear a bomber jacket just like frontman Caleb Followill.

Keeping up with Evisu and Scott Morrison

Thursday, 30 July, 2009

We recently reported that Scott Morrison, formerly of Paper Denim &Cloth and Ernest Sewn Jeans was appointed CEO of Evisu. Well we couldn’t be more excited here at eModa and we want to share all of our knowledge with you. We recently found an interview with Scott Morrison conducted by the people over at denimology (special thanks you guys).

He talks about his plans for evolving the image of Evisu but also staying true to what makes it the collectors brand that it is. What’s most important is he reassures the quality and integrity that has always been synonymous with his name and with Evisu.  Here are some tid bits for you to read:

Q) With Paper Denim & Cloth and Earnest Sewn you were involved from the beginning, whereas with Evisu you are taking over an existing company. What challenges do you think there will be working with an existing brand rather than starting from scratch?

A) Undoubtedly there are challenges within every organization, and taking on an existing concept has it’s pros and cons, there’s no doubt. Evisu is an amazing brand however, with 20 years of history and being the pioneer of men’s premium denim gives me a lot of positives to work with. There’s an iconic brand story, a heritage identity and one of the most recognizable logos in the world. On the flip side, one of the obvious challenges will be managing the expectations of our existing customer. We’re going to be evolving the brand concept and pushing Evisu in a new direction, which will be very exciting for most, but might leave some consumers on the sidelines.

Q) When Evisu first launched they were really the only men’s premium brand around (in the UK at least). Now many years later the competition has become fierce – could you describe what plans you have to get Evisu noticed in a very crowded marketplace.

A) I first found Evisu in the late 90′s when it had started to come into it’s own outside of Japan … and yes, it was the first real premium denim brand in my opinion (although Diesel and Replay were making pretty amazing jeans for years), and Evisu in many respects paved the way for people like myself to create brands like Paper Denim & Cloth or Earnest Sewn. When it comes to our approach for today’s market I maintain the same principles I’ve subscribed to since I started my first company in 1999; focus our efforts on product quality, innovation and brand integrity, everything else will speak for itself.

Q) When Evisu first emerged it was seen as a fashion brand, then it seemed to become more of streetwear label. Any plans to change the way the brand is perceived and if so how will you go about that?

A) Absolutely. The unique thing about Evisu is that brand perception is different in every market. In the UK it has more of a streetwear presence, in Asia it’s very much a collectors brand. We’re going to consolidate those perceptions by speaking from one point of view going forward. This is a denim company at heart, it is a Japanese icon, and we will redirect our efforts on making some of the best denim and clothing products in the world.

Q) Evisu is known for its distinctive branding, whilst Earnest Sewn used a far more subtle approach. Do you think you will tone down Evisu’s branding?

A) Yes. I will definitely tone down the branding element and by that I mean specifically the use of the logo and its frequency. In recent years it’s been too heavily relied upon and I think it’s overshadowed the design of some of our products. This won’t be the case going forward and you can expect some examples to be found in the SS10 range as well as the complete collection come AW10. That being said, Evisu is not Earnest Sewn, and the logo itself is one of the things I love about this brand …

Scott_Morrison_Eleanor_Ylvisaker.jpg
Morrison & PR guru Eleanor Ylvisaker in their Earnest Sewn days

Q) Earnest Sewn had very strong collections for both men and women, whereas Evisu is probably better known for its men’s denim. Can we expect to see an increased focus on the women’s side of the business.

A) Absolutely. One of the most exciting things for me about the opportunity at Evisu was the chance to inject a women’s denim component into the company. We’ve had a women’s range for a number of years but it was primarily sold only thru our retail stores. We will be launching a new women’s capsule for SS10 and a complete collection for AW10, both to be sold at wholesale which will be exciting for everyone.

Q) Evisu were one of the first brands to make Japanese denim available outside of Japan. You have stated that you intend to focus on the heritage of the brand, can we expect to see the jeans continue being manufactured there?

A) We will make Evisu products in a number of places (USA and Italy included), and my hope is that we’ll bring some production back to Japan very soon. We’ve been invited to work with a couple of amazing factories and laundries there, and obviously Evisu and I both have an affinity for Japanese denim so I’d expect to see it happen in the coming seasons.

Q) What is the relationship between the Japanese part of the company and the Global operation?

A) Evisu Japan owns the Evisu trademark for the Japanese market. We own the Evisu trademark for the rest of the world (everything outside of Japan). With regards to the relationship between the two companies, we have tremendous respect for Yamane and what he’s built in Japan. He’s a true inspiration and although we operate completely independent of Evisu Japan, both companies have the same philosophy and appreciation of quality and product integrity.

Q) With Earnest Sewn you had your uber-premium An Earnest Cut & Sew label – can we expect you see you doing something similar for Evisu?

A) What we’re doing with Evisu is actually reducing the number of collections, eliminating collections like Deluxe, EEE, Mainline, Heritage, etc. and redefining two: EVISU and Evisu Genes. Within the Evisu collection you’ll find a couple of smaller capsules however and those will be pretty amazing. The first being STYLECRAFT and the second being LABOUR. Stylecraft is a fashion capsule and Labour being more workwear inspired.

Q) Do you look to a particular scene or person for inspiration when designing a pair of jeans?

A) I’m always inspired by a number of things – fashion, people, architecture, a lifestyle; anything really. I do usually try to envision someone, a muse if you will, who would or could wear what I’m making though – my girlfriend perhaps, or a someone in a specific context (ie. hanging at the Smile Cafe in NYC or dancing at the Jane).

Q) What trends in denim do you see for Spring/Summer 2010?

A) For Evisu we’re re-envisioning our roots … resetting the clock and dialing it back to 1991. We’re loveing raw denim (of course) and a number of really amazing vintage inspired washes in our core selvege fabrics. We’ve updating the collection with four new low rise fits for men and reintroducing some old Evisu iconography such as original ‘Stylecraft’ hangtags and the ‘Labour’ workwear label as two examples.

Q) Is the myth true that Hidehiko Yamane bought an old Levis loom to weave the first pairs of Evisu?

I’m pretty sure that’s urban legend, but then again I have seen one …

Diesel: Flash For Fun

Tuesday, 28 July, 2009

Oh wow oh wow oh wow. Diesel has done it, yet again!DIESEL FLASH FOR FUN TEES

Do you have a purpose for all of your jeans? I do. I have the comfy jeans, the big dinner jeans (stretchy), the date jeans the party jeans, the summer jeans and even a pair for that certain time of the month. As a denim lover I have a pair (or 2 or 3) for just about everything.

And,  leave it to Diesel to create a new line so perfect I can only define them as my soon to be clubbing jeans.

We have all at some time in our lives (maybe every weekend) spent hours getting ready to go out dancing in a nearly pitch black club with little way to see the person your dancing with if not for the random, strobing black lights and so many other people you couldn’t find your best friend if they were standing right next to you.

Problem solver: Diesel, just swooped down and gave us the hottest new solution, glow-in-the-dark Jeans! Diesel’s new ‘Flash For Fun’ collection is nothing short of stylish and oh so fun.

The collection features Diesel’s jeans, t-shirts, sneakers and intimates in glow-in-the-dark detail for the Fall-Winter 2009 season. The collection has been conceived for those who play hard day and night without taking the time to change in between. The Flash for Fun pieces are discreet during the day and only reveal their bright details and stitches at night. Talk about recession savvy!

Hidden graphics, like dragons and earphones, are disguised on the pockets of some denim and are only revealed when exposed to black lights.

Genetic Denim is everywhere!

Monday, 6 July, 2009

Geez, people just can’t get enough of these jeans, they are being spotted everywhere! First Ciara in a pair of Shane in Black Mirror during her tribute performance to Michael Jackson at the 9th annual BET awards Sunday June 28.  Then we see a tribute to the dear denim brand on InStyle.com. Their July 1st “WHAT’S right NOW!” section shows an awesome pair of boyfriend shorts to follow up the boyfriend jean trend. And Teen Vogue tops it off with a photo spread in their August edition featuring a sky blue pair of skinny jeans styled with tons of plaid and bright yellow scrunchie socks.

If you’re looking for a pair of your own, then search no further than www.emoda.com/brands/Genetic-Denim.asp

Rock & Republic does the MOST basic, basics

Thursday, 11 June, 2009

Our fave, Rock & Republic, has created a new look for the basics; they are calling it Plain Wrap and we are calling it AMAZING! With fall 09 quickly approaching, we absolutely had to snatch some of these great basics for our customers which you can expect to appear on eModa.com.

There is so much to look forward to from this brand including T-shirts, jeans, hoodies and Windbreakers for men and women as well as leggings and a tank top for just the women. Plain Wrap’s head-to-toe look will be completed with his-and-hers sneakers and stilettos.

Here’s what you can expect it to look like: each article of clothing is labeled with it’s name in capital letters. For instance, a screen print of “LEGGINGS” spans from the calf to the mid-thigh, and the hoodies simply have the word “HOODIE” across the back.

But the best part has got to be the recession-friendly price of these designs. Plain Wrap retails for between $35 and $198 and to make the picking easy, the only available colors will be black, white and blue.
