Ben Sherman Clothing - The Original Ben Sherman Shirt
Posted: 11/18/2009 12:58:04 PM
|
Ben Sherman was the Mod God. The man, who started making shirts in the late 1950’s from a small factory in Brighton, went on the dress the swinging Sixties & became the King of trend-setting Carnaby Street. Hungry for money and fame, he remained a party animal until the day he died in 1987. The 1960’s gave British youth more fashion, money & freedom than ever before. Working from small premises in Brighton, entrepreneurial shirt maker Ben Sherman saw his niche & founded the Ben Sherman Company in 1963.
Immediate demand fuelled fast growth in production and product innovation, in particular the development of a wide range of formal shirts packaged in the original distinctive black boxes with orange logo, sold across the UK, Europe and the USA. By 1968 the company had moved to Carnaby Street in London, and the Ben Sherman button Oxford shirt had become a status symbol. Demand overwhelmed the original factory, and in 1969 Ben Sherman established further production units in factories and converted ballrooms in Northern Ireland to cater for his ever growing market.
Between 1972 and 1975 the company saw a number of changes, as did Ben Sherman himself, who took off for life on the beach in Australia. Sherman was committed to the good life, and also to quality and fine tailoring. His shirts had certain unique features – a button down collar, a back pleat and loop – which are now instantly recognized Ben Sherman details. With renewed focus, and continued investment in design and marketing, Ben Sherman has since gone from strength to strength.
Enduring attitude
Ben Sherman has developed from its original roots as the status shirt brand, into a complete lifestyle brand. The most enduring British youth phenomenon since the teenager was invented, The Mod, adopted the brand as its style trademark. The Mod movement was always about everything a teenager aspires to be – stylish, smart, tough, streetwise, good-looking and popular. As true originals, the Mod’s became national and world news.
The media gave them the glamour of notoriety, the Police made them outlaws, and their parents were outraged by them. Youth, of course, embraced them, and the cult was born. Elements of Mod dress have been the starting point for most street styles, and for every revival, appropriation or reinvention of Mod fashion, one of the original references is always Ben Sherman, for its smart street style and attitude.

Siwy Denim
Posted: 11/18/2009 12:58:22 PM
|
Siwy is a label that was launched in the Spring of 2005 in downtown NYC. The concept behind the line is merging the traditional ideas of classic American denim with the styling of familiar shapes. With this idea in mind, we push slightly further to create a carefully crafted and sculpted silhouette. The combination of a tailored fit, expert construction and superb wash detail highlights the curves without denying what is underneath. Individual taste and style are satisfied through the array of fine washes and silhouettes developed at America's best wash and sewing facilities, where each pair is treated as a work of art. All hold a vintage aesthetic, whether it is a clean wash of color or capturing the subtleties of authentically aged styles. Together, these elements combine to bring to life a fresh new style that can be appreciated by the most discerning collector.
The superlative, modern tailoring that goes into each pair of jeans is uncompromisingly beautiful as it is technical. The development of the line utilizes cutting edge approaches in design while increasing comfort and style. Unexpected takes on classic shapes are mixed with the demand for a truly authentic look and feel. Siwy uses only the best, high quality American denim , then cut with a fashionable edge. The aesthetic is vintage and familiar, clean and classic. The long and lean shape is softened by strategically placed, quilted pockets that lift and shape, which carefully follow the curve of all seams. A shortened back hem curve avoids dragging on the floor when worn with sneakers or heels while maintaining a very long and lean illusion for women of all sizes. Every inch of the jean is shaped and contoured from the waistband to the hem and all details in between. Whether it is the stitch thread that shows strength or the high quality of the denim that shows staying power, somehow the look is comforting and familiar, tough yet feminine all at once.
Every pair of Siwy denim is adorned with a hand-crafted label made out of vintage feedsacks. Between the 1880's through the 1940's the bags, as much as the goods they contained, became wildly advertised items. Although there is no definition for the term 'feedsack' it was an integral part of rural American life. Historically, the bags have unique patterns on them that utilize an array of colors, made from cotton or burlap woven together. Before it was ever fashionable, the sacks were recycled into garments and quilts. Siwy utilizes this same idea to create a unique labeling system that can ensure the owner that they are not only getting a piece of American history but a unique label that the owner can really feel is special because of the limited run of labels per print.
There is an element of true and authentic style in the overall sewn garment. Our purpose is to provide the wearer with the ultimate in fit quality and modernity. We pride ourselves in the success of executing the often-failed task of renewing vintage inspiration into a perfected finish, detail and fit that make for a truly unique and special garment.

G-Star Raw
Posted: 11/18/2009 12:50:05 PM
|
From it's conception in 1989, G-Star has been known for its innovative and cutting edge style in the world of denim. Pushing the boundaries, continuous experimentation and product development, has led to a strong following worldwide. The rough, rudimentary, and raw characteristics of the brand allows G-Star to maintain its distinct and unorthodox style.
Just the product has always been G-Stars philosophy and market approach. The development of innovative products like Raw Denim, which has had a major influence on the jeans market, was a natural consequence. Since the premiere of Raw Denim in 1996, G-Star has broadened its concept to include a newer, edgier image, appealing to all styles, trends and ages, while keeping the product in the purest form. Authentic details and functional attributes give the collection a strong sense of identity.
Innovation and perfection of the product are imperative to G-Star. Each season the jeans-oriented collection serves as the basis of the line, while authentic details and innovative washings are added. The brand has seen multiple breakthroughs in the past few years and continues to reach out to many different markets around the world.
The G-Star brand is a style of all times. Futuristic and cautious. Far reaching and experimental. Alternative and traditional. G-Star is about making eccentric combination's, and maintaining authenticity. Never one to follow the crowd. Just the Product.

Bad news for Versace employees!
Posted: 10/29/2009 4:27:43 PM
|
First they announced their plans to close down their stores in Japan.
And, now, in an attempt to increase profits, Versace will be cutting around 350 jobs worldwide by mid next year!
According to Versace's chief executive officer, Gian Giacomo Ferraris, “Trading conditions in the wake of the global financial crisis have been severe and the company expects to make a loss in 2009. No organization can allow a situation like this to continue, especially considering the flat outlook for 2010.”

VERY SAD!
The company will also try to reduce costs elsewhere by reducing capital investment and analyzing production facilities.

Paris' Trash Is an eBay Treasure
Posted: 10/29/2009 4:22:59 PM
|
A while back a couple of jokesters from the website HollywoodTrash.com rummaged through the hotel heiress' trash and placed their finds on eBay. Some of the items that were recovered from the socialite's garbage include a used toothbrush, an autographed postcard and a fan letter to the reality TV star. All of the aforementioned items are currently up for bid on eBay. When I last checked, the toothbrush had a bid of nearly $300.
If you think that's insane wait to you hear about the piece of trash that is getting the most attention... and generating the highest bids. According to news reports, an empty can of gourmet dog food plundered from Hilton's trash had launched an eBay bidding war reaching $1.5 million.
What did I tell you about the world ceasing to spin on its axis? Frankly, I think the entire sale smells as bad as Hilton's trash. As for the $1.5 million bid, I think it reeks of illegitimacy.

Lady GaGa's A Stylemaker, To Receive Award From Marc Jacobs
Posted: 10/29/2009 4:18:01 PM
|
The past year or so of Lady Gaga dressing up like a self-important performance artist is finally paying off. The "Poker Face" singer is being given a fashion award.
Marc Jacobs will honor Lady Gaga Monday night with the Stylemaker Award at the 13th annual Accessories Council Excellence Awards. That's right, she's officially an Accessories Stylemaker.
Congratulations!
One day she might even be a regular fashion stylemaker, but hopefully not because then she might start thinking she’s influencing the world more than she actually is.

Q&A With Marc Jacobs
Posted: 10/15/2009 1:52:41 PM
|
As a designer continually under the spotlight’s glare — be that of the runway or the gossip columns — Marc Jacobs has his own perspective on the mystique in fashion. WWD executive editor Bridget Foley talked with Jacobs right before the Paris collections about luxury, reality TV and the similarity of designers and sports stars.
WWD: Fashion once upon a time was cloaked in mystique. Now we have obsessive media coverage with an industry where designers and editors are on display 24 hours a day. How do you think we got there?
Marc Jacobs: When I saw this [question] all I could think of was something someone said to me once, an off-handed comment about 10 years ago: “Do you remember what it was like when it was a big deal to go to Paris and buy perfume and to bring your wife or your girlfriend? French perfume, because it wasn’t available anywhere except for in Paris.” Now, everything is available everywhere. I don’t know whether it’s worthwhile to moan about whether this is a good thing or a bad thing — it’s just the way it is. Life changes, and the Internet and the media have been a big part of the change that exists now. It’s just better to accept things for what they are and enjoy them.

On when she feels sexy:
"I feel sexiest in the nude…[My husband, Jordan Bratman] has a way of making me feel sexy….When you see something you dislike and your partner looks at you and embraces it, it makes you feel good. You know, the scars of life are beautiful."
On keeping her marriage exciting:
"It's important to make time for yourselves. I don't like schedules - I don't think sex should be scheduled. We all have our little turn-ons and the things that make our romance spicy, so you just have to tap into what that is for you, and keep experimenting."
