Designers Looking For Cheaper Runway Show Alternatives

It seems like no one is immune to the current economic situation!
Not even fancy designers like Betsey Johnson or Carmen Marc Valvo, who have both decided independently of each other to skip the Bryant Park tents this season.
For Betsey Johnson this will be the end of a 5 season run there, while for Valvo it signals the end of a 10 year history.
Johnson's camp wouldn't comment on the designer's reasons for the decision, but Valvo admitted that they are looking for a less expensive way to unveil the Fall 2009 collection since a typical show runs up a bill of $150,000 to $200,000.
The designer is looking into an intimate cocktail party, where the 200 guests could see the collection up close off the runway, cutting expenses by nearly 50%.
The house isn't the only one to look into a smaller alternative. DKNY, Vera Wang, and J. Mendel are all considering similar off-runaway presentations, with many more designers expected to follow "suit."

This new hat is a great addition to your funky closet. You can have it both with flaps up or down. It comes in black or brown leather and looks great with any look. I am wearing it here with the shoot with Mike Richards with flaps down. I wear it every where and people always comment. Emoda has them now so get yours. Former eModa employee Tiff Jones made the huge decision to head over to Iraq as a civilian, working in the food services division to help out our troops. Still dedicated to her past employer, of course, she’s been updating us steadily with her progress and experiences over there on the other side of the world. Tiff has been enjoying herself, helping to prepare meals for other employees and taking part in morale-boosting organized events (such as basketball games). We at eModa.com wish her all the best as she continues her tour of work in that foreign climate.

Ricky Martin has twin biological boys with a hired mommy. What is wrong with him? Still not out of the closet, he will be. Look at Clay Akins, he had a baby then came out of the closet. Michael Jacko Jackson is just crazy and we all know he likes nothing but little boys...hence hiring a woman to have his children.
Any straight super star could get a woman to marry him and have his kids. Ricky Martin could have half the women on the planet if he wanted... but apparently he doesn't.
Well I am glad he looks so happy. Those babies are beautiful and I wish him all the best. He just as a parent needs to be honest why the boys have no Mommy and why "Uncle Joe" is always around having sleep overs with Daddy.

Affilction gets the Boot from the Fashion World

Maxim in its December issue is talking about what I have already been saying for over a YEAR!!! Affliction is crap and only crap guys wear it. Unless you got it for free (which is how every single Athlete you have ever seen wearing it got it... Affliction sent out boxes and boxes of tees to every NHL, NFL and MMA etc. player in all the leagues) then you have no excuses.
I really hope if you still have them you no longer wear them... cause if you do then too bad for you cause you are being seen in a tee that makes you look like you suck as a person.
They are so annoying and from my view it is a deal breaker. I have a good guy friend who plays in the NFL and Affliction sent him 60 t-shirts, another guy friend who plays in the NHL who is not as well known and he got 40 tees. I told them both last year not wear them any longer. A plain white tee will get your further than one of those.
So find new ways to reuse them... perhaps you enjoy working on your car and need an oil rag, or you just had a baby and need cloth diapers for the tike... a spit up rag? Maybe you lost a bet and need to clean you frat house toilets for the next month... use an Affliction tee. That way you won't at least be wasting the 30 to 60 dollars you wasted on that cheap excuse for cotton.

After nine months the odd couple calls it quits. There will be no more double dating for BBF's Richie and Hilton with twin Madden brothers. Sad to say the couple has confirmed that they are no longer together.
Paris is doing what Paris does best... hooking back up with her ex Stavros Niarchos. That girl cannot stay without a man insider her... I mean beside her for more than a day.
Well if you can... I say do it. I thought her and Benji were slightly off. That Greek kid is a hottie and more on her level. He is the heir to a Greek shipping fortune with billions... not to mention his mom is a Guinness... yes like the beer. His mother is the heiress to the Irish beer empire. Who could ask for more? He is tall, hot and uber rich and from a serious family with international power who can ship stuff anywhere and drink all the beer he wants... for free.... AWESOME. The rich just keep getting it on with each other. This just gets better and better. Good for her and good luck to them all.
Who can keep up? At least Paris is good for keeping America entertained. She sure does keep us on her toes... I love it.

Every "it" girl from Gwen Stephani to Jennifer Aniston is rocking the new fad. Marina and I bought a bunch and should be getting them soon for eModa.com. I can't wait for my personal pair.
Posh Spice looks super sexy and comfy in Hubbie's denim. Lucky girl... I would rock David Beckam's pants any day of the week.
Katie Holmes has been a big pusher of the this new style. She has been spotted every where with them.
It is great that this is coming into trend after the holidays. I know we all gained a couple extra pounds from all the turkey celebrations, so at least the baggy boyfriend cut is a bit more forgiving. Lucky us.

The boys from Miami Ink bring you Deville

Chris Nunez and Ami James are two of the most well known tattoo artists around. From their hit reality show Miami ink they have spun into two different clothing lines. One after the name sake and a bad boy named Deville.
Inspired designs from the lives of Chris and Ami of being professional bad Asses, these tee make a statement, I am really cool so don't mess with me. This trend his hitting the big boys of the bad ass world. Every guy from your local bad ass to your NFL bad ass, to a serious major league BA and even a NHL guy who is known for just being a bad ass. All these guys are following the trend of bad meaning good.
I had an opportunity to sit with Ami and Chris who happen to be two of my favorite people in their Miami shop on Washington AVE. They were great to talk with and both so excited about their new line Deville. Ami and Chris have broken away from the pack to create this line of high end tees. Using fine fabrics and unique designs as well as detailed touches such as foiling makes Deville the leader in the bad ass industry.
I look forward to upcoming seasons of the line. Chris and Ami assured me that they will be producing some one of a kind limited addition stuff that will blow you away. A possible expansion on the line will happen as well. I am hoping so because this line is very cool and these guys are incredibly creative. I am confident that what they will come up with will be worth the wait. For now these tees are moving quickly and I am stoked about it. I love dressing guys in Deville because it works well and though it is fashionable it is still very masculine.
I personally am a big fan of men dressing like real men so I am sure this trend of these tees selling so well and being so popular will continue.
Well after that sunny Miami afternoon with the boys I will remember them by the dual tattoo I received from them as well as all the jokes. Those two are a handful, no wonder they landed their own show. Hysterical.

Mike Richards is a Canadian native from Kenora. This is probably why he came into shoot on November 4th which was Election Day...he cannot vote here so it made sense. For only him I was willing to put my vote on delay till after the fact. No one could give up the opportunity to hang with Philadelphia's coolest import. But so you know I did vote right after so no worries. I am not Canadian and would have had no excuse if I did not.
This shoot was one of my personal favorites. Mike is a very clean cut but fashionable kind of guy. I placed him in Five Four, which is one of my personal favorite brands for guys. This line is very clean all while maintaining a nice sophistication. I also pushed Mike's personal style with J. Steger. This line is a little louder but done very well. The materials and cut of this line is very fashion forward and only for the coolest kid on the block, which of course Mike is, especially now after eModa rock stared him out.
Mike also shot in Rass collection which is made from the finest cotton on the planet. Imported from Lima Peru this Pima cotton line is the softest and most luxurious tee line around. Simple and yet easy designs that make a statement without skimping on the comfort. For guys fashion does not have to equal pain, hence you'll never see a man wearing 5 inch YSL heels. Roar was the button up of choice. Great and stylish going out stuff. Those button ups can even make good guys like Richie into a Bar Star and be chased by girls everywhere. I doubt he needs help from Roar there because he is a total cutie but, for other guys it can be a great help in that department. All girls like boys who know how to dress. That is a fact... look it up.
We also used Taverniti in the shoot. If you have read my blog before than you would know that Taverniti is my favorite brand of denim. We used both their new special addition black waxed guys denim as well as their famous cords also in black. Laguna Beach Jeans were also included in the shoot because it is a well known fact that Canadian hockey players love them. It is something I have tested and proven.
Tankfarm was a big part of what went on. They are the perfect brand for the every guy kind of guy. Simple and well done with always the right statement Tankfarm is a good fit always. Triple Five Soul contributed a killer jacket that Mike looked great in. All in all it was a great shoot for everyone... especially my personal assistant who was smitten with the charmer. Mike got a bunch of killer new fits for the fall and I got to style one of my favorite Philly guys. It was good stuff because everyone who is anyone is down with eModa and we like it like that. Mike Richards is no exception to that rule. I had the pleasure of sitting with Jamie Kennedy to chat and also having an opportunity to style him for an eModa.com photo shoot. He was hilarious and very friendly. He said hello to everyone. Great stuff, he wore what I picked out for him on stage at his Atlantic City show later that night.
The new co-star of Ghost Whisperer was a super cool kid and actually taller than I had thought. He stood at six foot one. Hey hey, after Malibu most wanted I expected him to be a little guy, but to my surprise no sir. He was very humble and a total sweetie. He was very grateful for all the clothing, he sent me several thank you texts and of course offered tickets for me and all my girls to his show in AC. What a nice guy!
I wrote the best article about him! You must check it out. It is on the front page as we speak. It is called the Jamie Kennedy Fashion Experiment; the title of the editorial shoots is a play on the title of his own television show The Jamie Kennedy Experiment. That show was crazy! Who knew one guy could be so many people. That just goes to show the talent this kid has swirling around inside that creative brain.

EAGLES come to hang with Misha at eModa Headquarters

Two of Philadelphia's finest football players came in to shoot with me at eModa.com. Brent Celek is in his second year in the league for the Eagles as a Tight End and Hank Basket is also in his second year in the league with the Eagles as a Wide Receiver.
These boys sure did clean up nicely. Both arriving in simple jeans and athletic tees, I changed them quickly into eModa thermals and killer jeans. The shoot progressed with several different looks, including tees from Motor City Legends.
Both guys were great to hang out with. Brent is a super funny guy and Hank is a natural charmer. Speaking of being a natural charm... I heard through my Eagles grapevine that over the weekend Hank Basket proposed to his girlfriend of less than a year Kendra Wilkinson of the Girls Next Door, the reality series with Hugh Heffner and his 3 live in girlfriends.
This morning Hugh was quoted as saying that he would be giving Kendra away at a wedding ceremony scheduled for next June at the Playboy mansion where the show was filmed in Los Angeles. Slightly odd that a girl's ex boyfriend will be giving her away to her new boyfriend at their wedding which is at the ex boyfriends house... but whatever makes people happy and keeps them all in good spirits is cool with me.
Hank is a super nice guy and Kendra seems to be a sweetheart so we here at eModa.com have nothing but great things to say about them both and we wish you all the luck in the world! Congratulations to the both of you.
Brent Celek is also newly married. He actually was married the week before the shoot took place to his long time fiance. Congratulations to you as well. It must be that second year for the Eagles just makes a guy want to get hitched.

Our Favorite 4 time Pro Bowl Tight End Jeremy Charles Shockey loves J.Steger. I am happy to say this incredibly fashionable foot ball hottie of the New Orleans Saints has impeccable taste.
While in London for the NFL UK games Jeremy had a moment to step out and about in the trendy city to try his luck at a few hands of cards. This guy is obviously a golden child. His winnings were enough to make a girl blush. Maybe it was his lucky shirt that brought him the jackpot.
J. Stegers new collection has a beautiful collection of Button ups for only the truly fashion savvy. Unreal applications of embroidered leather and silk with some monochromatic studding makes these shirts unlike any others.

Mike Richards is coming in today for an eModa style photo shoot with me! Misha AKA Michelle Miller. I have put together a sick line up of the falls hottest gear for the Philadelphia Flyers' hottest player.
Mike Richards is a center for the Flyers as well as their team captain. At only 23 years old this guys is on fire! This Canadian sure knows what he is doing on the ice, whether he is scoring or beating the crap out of people he is a pro. Signed for a record breaking contract this Kenora, Ontario native has remained humble and as cute as pie. He also played in last year's All STAR Games, yay Richie.
In his first year as team captain, replacing Jason Smith he has so far proven that he has what it takes to carry the title.
I am super excited to have him in and I know this shoot will be phenomenal. I can't wait for you all to check it out, but you will have to wait for editing, me writing an article after interviewing Richie, and then Lauren and I sitting down to lay out the editorial spread!! WORK WORK WORK! But great work. Love it and all the Flyers fans out there will love it, and all the Mike Richards fans are really going to love it cause "WATCH OUT!" his sexiness will be in the building in less than 2 hours from now. Let the countdown begin!

We here at eModa have done Photo Shoots with 3 different Phillies players this season alone. We are so proud of these guys and are so stoked that they brought the city of brotherly love home a title.
Maybe eModa.com is really good luck and more players should shoot with us so we can hook them up! Flyers had lost every game of the season but me and a couple other eModa chickas went to a game and it happened that they won the first one of the season. It is not about a certain brand of shoe for each brand of jean. It is about style in general. Each of those brands can be dressed in different ways. The key here is to have a basic shoe wardrobe that can be used for all of the denim looks you want. I personally as a guy would always own a pair of each of the following, a good pair of camel colored loafers, a pair of black dress shoes, a pair of chocolate brown dress shoes and a pair of Chuck Taylor's in either black, cream or white.
This way perhaps you can make a look different with just your shoes. Imagine, Taverniti jeans with a dress shirt, cord blazer with a paper boy cap and scarf... with camel dress shoes, sharp and very put together but throw on chucks and you have edgy and very cool all while being more casual. So, make sure your shoes are up to par and the rest of your looks will be completed.
I hope this helps you in making yourself more fashion savy.

Baseball Reality with Phillies' Pitcher Kyle Kendrick

Taking a break from the World Series to come in with his girlfriend Stephenie Lagrossa, Kyle Kendrick of the Philadelphia Phillies has a sit down with eModa and a killer photo shoot.
They came in to do an eModa photo shoot with Michelle Miller (me aka Misha). I styled them, wrote a sick article and did the art direction for the shoot. I made all this happen with photographer extraordinaire Joshua Trusty and graphic Design queen bee Lauren K r a s n o p o l s k i. It was a blast. Check it out on the front page under "baseball reality".
Kyle Kendrick is a Philadelphia Phillies pitcher. Growing up in Mount Vernon, Washington he was the oldest of four. During school, he played every sport and even got a scholarship offer as a quarterback for Washington State University. He declined, however, and went on to pursue his love of baseball. This love he has could possibly stem from growing up playing the sport with his dad. His father played in the minors for the Astros for years, so sports run in Kyle's blood. All of his siblings are very athletic and all played or play in school. "My little nine-year-old sister, Shea, is an amazing soccer player," gushes Kyle. He also states that his two younger brothers Ryan and Corey, like him, also played multiple sports.
In his second year of playing in the majors, Kyle is finding himself right in the middle of the World Series, a position he is not taking for granted, he assures me. “I know guys who have been in the league 22 years and not had a chance to see a World Series. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this team. We played really hard last year, but this year it has all fallen into place just right. I am really proud of my team and very grateful to be here. Philadelphia is one of the best cities to play for, hands down. The energy from the fans is what gets you so pumped to play and I am just happy we can give this experience back to them after all their support. The World Series is as good as it gets, and you just can’t ask for anything more as a baseball player."
Stephanie Lagrossa is the youngest of five. Four older brothers kept this cookie tough and active. Growing up in Delaware County, Steph (as everyone around her refers to her as) played all types of sports. She not only played field hockey but she swam, played lacrosse, softball, basketball and even found time to be a cheerleader. All of this activity built a backbone for Steph to grow on and eventually test her athleticism on the hit reality show Survivor, where she competed not once, but twice! After her stint as one of the show's most popular players, she came back east to Philly to become the in-area host for the Philadelphia Flyers as well as a Monday night commentator on Comcast Sports Channel's "Monday Night Live" program. She is currently filming her new gig on CBS New England's NE Thing; she tells me "It's like QVC, but only for products made in the NE area. It will only be broadcast there as well."

Q: What to wear? Try Jeans…(For Men)

Men are tending to dress up a bit more this season... think Ne-Yo's new album titled "The Year of the Gentleman". Guys are growing up and getting dressier. Thinking about clothing makes a man seem more appealing and trust me when I tell you, women really notice.
Look at men that are considered sexy... James Bond (excellent sense of style), Alfie, Bruce Wayne and, of course... The Jonas Brothers. There is something that all these male beauties have in common besides reaping home the ladies by the dozens at one time: their great sense of style.
To be a true player, you have to look the part. That means your crappy tee from your glory days as a "Thompson Middle School Wrestling Champ" and you Abercrombie jeans from those good 'ol days at the frat house are done. They will not help you get laid... I swear. Women enjoy being next to a man who has a rhyme and reason for leaving the house wearing what he does and that reason cannot be that it was the first thing he picked up off the floor.
The first thing I check out on a man (besides hands and teeth... I am a big stickler for those things) is his denim. What choice has this man made in his denim selection? It can say a lot about your personality. If you are wearing Mek denim, I know you are a nerd. If you are wearing Wrangler's, perhaps you work in a rodeo. If you are wearing Tavernitis, I know you are kind of cool and a little edgy with something to say but don't want to say it loudly. If you have Laguna Beach Jeans on, you are a bit of a rebel with a fiery streak in you for sure. Rock & Republics tell me that you are sophisticated and care about your clothing, and that you pay attention to detail. Sevens tell me you are slightly more on the conservative side, but care about what you are wearing. Dylan George tells me that you are in the fashion loop, and I am super impressed by that.
So to start with something the ladies will like... take time to choose your jeans. A nice button-up or even just a well fitting tee (not too tight and not a square box; Tankfarm Tees fit amazingly well) is important. A nice jacket that has simple lines and a nice cut with a focus on detail can be crucial in making you look super suave (Five Four jackets are phenomenal on guys and are reasonably priced. If you want to be a super-sexy baller, go for John Richmond). Lastly, top it off with a killer paperboy cap and a sick scarf and be sure to wear your Chuck T's... they really go with everything and to me it is so sexy when a guy throws them on (even if they are a little beat up, they are the only shoes where that can be forgiven and still be cool).
To be suave, you don't need to wear suits every day. Style is not about that anymore. If I had "007" in my hands today, he would be slick without the suit. Not that I don't love a man in a crisp suit, but there is something super sexy about jeans and a tee... as long as it's the right jeans and tee.

Fall Fashion

Q: What are "the" colors this winter?
Purples are making a big run for the money for both men and women this coming season. I would love to see a guy in a very regular black and gray color scheme typical fall outfit and then have him add a crazy royal purple scarf to that. For girls there are some phenomenal purple leather jackets coming out this season, in particular one from Diesel that would be to die for and worn as you would a black one but switching up the color.
Q:What is the worst ensemble one could possibly slap together during a winter season?
There is a lot of freedom with fashion these days. People can choose to express themselves in many ways and still be very fashionable. For me not caring about what you are wearing will always be the “worst” because there should be no excuses to look like a mess. Having some key items in your closet always helps you look like you have it together…even on those days were you are just in a rush and don’t have time to think it all out. A sharp over coat is an awesome cover up in the fall and it will help you always look put together even if what you have underneath is unforgivable.
Q: What is the most flattering look for someone slightly overweight? What will make them slimmer?
When you are slightly bigger finding clothing that fit right is the first step. Wearing items that are too small will only extenuate the fuller parts of your figure. Altering items to suite your body can be very helpful in playing up the more flattering parts of your body and help cover those you would rather not have exposed or extenuated. Finding great accent pieces are always good in playing yourself up. A large draping scarf over a flattering tee is a good move with nice stretch very dark or even black denim and a killer blazer.

Heather Yoon is a denim industry veteran who has ghost designed for denim companies that I am sure you already have in your closet. Her knowledge of the fashion industry makes her a force to be reckoned with when pertaining to your booty.
She is serious about a**. Her hook stitch design allows your butt to be lifted and the separated to give it optimal form. I had a chance to meet her in NYC and this Cali girl was giving me a run for my money. Smoking hot in 7 inch YSL heels (my favorite in the entire world, I want to be buried in them!) and Pur denim hot pants (with legs that would karate chop your a** in two) this woman was giving it to me hard! She definitely knew what she was talking about and what she was working with.
All her knowledge came in handy when Marina had all the industry questions... where is the denim from? What is the stretch? What kinds of washes? Where is it produced? And who is wearing it already?
It is being worn by all of Hollywood's hotties. Ellen Pompeo is a huge fan as well as Kristin Cavallari just to name a few. What is different about this line is that Heather has taken into consideration that not all women are formed the same. For every pocket she has created she has two available cuts.."the Scarlett"for those women who are a bit more up and down, then “the Bardot” for the honeys with the hips (like me!). Her attention to stitching and form are unmatched by any other women's denim designer.
Get your pair as soon as we do, before we run out. I predict that these will fly and fly fast. Who doesn't want "to lift and then separate"?

Robin's Jeans came from a really hot Robin...

I am happy to say that I finally got to meet the hottest big dog on the market right now.
Robin Chretien is the head designer and the creator of Robin's Jeans. If you haven’t heard of them by now, then you have not been listening. They are very hot even though the market is not. Robin has been in the industry for while now designing for other heavy hitters before spreading his own wings for a solo effort. The French born designer is very debonair and super charming as well as incredibly talented. The line was launched in 2004 and has been making waves ever since.
Robin's eye for form makes for great flattery... of your figure that is. The pockets are unique and well thought out. The creativity of all the designs and the quality of the materials used will make your new pair of Robins stay in your closet for a very long time.
They look great on everyone from Nelly to Fergie. Across the board they are a great decision maker. Amazing quality and incredible style... how can you say no to that?

Deville

Deville is the new kid on the Block with some serious backing…
While in Miami this last trip I was hanging out with America's favorite tattoo guys Ami James and Chris Nunez from the TLC show Miami Ink. Let me just say these guys are just as fun in person as seen on TV… probably even more fun hehe (can’t edit in real life.. haha).
They are launching a new line of tees with Monarchy called Deville. Very bad a**. This terrible twosome has put together a line that everyone can get into and everyone can look great in. We stopped by the shop on Washington Avenue in Miami where they film the show and they had a little tattoo off on me!! Wow do I feel special. So down to earth and very entertaining these guys were real pro’s (even though tons of tourists were snapping pictures uncontrollably while we were trying to do our thing).
Afterwards we all got a chance to hang out at their rocking bar called LOVE HATE which is located on 5th and Washington right there in South Beach where we partied like rock stars and had a seriously great time. The DJ was ripping it up in there and we were ripping up the stripper poles which are strategically located in the VIP were we just so happened to be sitting with our bottles of Grey Goose and Patron! “GO DJ! IT’S MY DJ!”
All and all we are going to be able to get you guys out there in some awesome Deville tees and maybe post some really great picks of our time out so that you can live vicariously through us!

Though we have carried this line from the beginning, they continue to please us with their design innovations. We sat down with Ania Khalupsky (who is also wearing a Motor City Legends top) who is the east coast wholesale rep for them to talk about their direction.
These jeans are totally rocked out and full of fun but they are changing paces and growing into themselves a bit more. They have developed new washed and exclusive pocket patterns that are adorned with an all new set of Swarovski stones. They have new amazing raw black denim which they have adorned with very rare jet black Swarovski crystals. This denim color pallet will be available for both men and women in 14 different pocket styles as well as miniskirts for the chickas.
Ania also went on to tell us about their black wash coming up for guys and gals with white stitching as well as the completion of an entire collection. That’s right; you heard it here first… Laguna Beach Jeans co. is branching out into shoes, button ups, tees, jackets, belts, hats and tons more. It is going to be insanity. They will keep their rocked out Laguna Beach SoCal feel and totally thrill you to the core.
Britney Spears is a huge fan of the whole line and I am sure she will be thrilled to hear that Laguna is also going to be a children’s line! Those two little cutie pies of hers will probably be geared up!

Why accessories make GUYS sexier....

Everyone can wear clothes but accessorizing is an art form. You can take any plain white tee and basic denim (hopefully very stylish denim) and rock it up and out with just the right bracelets, necklaces and of course scarves and HATS!
I am a big accessories girl and I like my guys with some good stuff too. I feel like it shows the world "hey, I am pretty cool and very stylish even when I am not trying..."
John Mayer is a good male accessorizer and actually so is Little Wayne. A simple but cool bracelet on a guy with possibly a nice dog tag can make any guy look like he might know what's up. Also the new hotness is scarves... even when all you have is a tee and jeans.
The perfect hat can make any one look like a fashion god if done right. Brad Pitt is a great example of that. He makes them work with plain tees and even with suits. David Beckham is a true champ when it comes to knowing how to rock male jewelry. He and Posh are amazing together when fashion is involved.
It makes such a difference in how you look and yet most guys outside of Hollywood don't pay attention when they really should. A little bit of effort can go a seriously long way in looking chic. Boys! Pay attention... get a couple cool medium length leather roped or slim chain necklaces, a leather wrist cuff and two simple strings or thin leather ropes, a killer scarf and a sweet collection of hats including a fedora and a few paper boy caps.
